My son joined the infants' classes over a month ago, and after trying various other activities and clubs throughout the years, I can honestly say that Ishin Ryu Jiu Jitsu has been a great success.
The classes are well structured, with plenty of opportunities for the children to burn off energy between learning techniques – The techniques are then then incorporated into further activities which is an excellent way to engage them in a structured environment while maintaining the fun needed to keep them coming back.
It’s a really welcoming environment and there are no expectations regarding fitness levels or prior knowledge when children join. Sempai Joe and Max tailor their teaching exceptionally well to each student, spending more time with some when needed, or pairing more experienced students with those who are newer to the club to support them. They also manage to form a great relationship with the children, whilst maintaining the discipline expected in such an environment, which is a difficult balance to find and one they have clearly mastered.
I could go on and on, but I'll conclude by saying that if you have a child who would benefit from a fun and structured environment, where they learn valuable techniques for self-defence and general fitness, and, above all, have fun while burning off plenty of energy, then Ishin Ryu is the place for them.
The first lesson was free, and there was no pressure to come back afterwards, so there's really nothing to lose by giving it a try!
